Standing in the door way, Audrey looked quite small. She was only fourteen, a cause in itself to be so small, but she was also petite like her mother. Hell, she looked just like her, save the eyes. Standing in the doorway as the older man turned to her, Audrey felt metaphorically small as well. He hadn’t even said anything, his brain seemed to stop working, she thought, holding back a small laugh. She sighed, letting her shoulders dropped. Well, she couldn’t say she didn’t expect this.
“Not quite.” AJ said simply, dropping her book bag against the wall beside her. Realizing the door was still open, AJ turned to it and grabbed the handle, looking over her shoulder at him. “Mind if I … ?” she began, and upon realizing that he wasn’t quite aware enough to notice, let alone care, she pulled the door close. Privacy was something they needed.
AJ had already planned things out ahead of time, there was no use risking their plan going astray due to a lack of preparation. KC had done most of the decision making, predicting reactions or whatever she had done, and deciding that AJ should stick to the necessities, and only let more information slip if she absolutely had to. AJ agreed that this was a good idea; no need to give the man a heart attack! Then what would they do?
“Well, I expected it to be obvious, but I didn’t expect you to go dumb over it.” the confident teenager said with a confused frown, crossing her arms. “I’m pretty sure I’m not Lea, unless I got an awesome face lift or something.” she shrugged. “Mom looks good for her age, but not this good.” she laughed to herself.
“No use beating around the bush. Hi, I’m AJ, Leona Conily’s daughter.” she said boldly, leaning over the desk a bit to offer her hand. “I knew I probably should have called first. You look like you’ve seen a ghost.” she grinned, stepping back to sit down in the chair in front of his desk. She was acting so nonchalantly, and making herself at home. She sat silently, but with small smile on her lips, hoping he wasn’t going to pass out or something. She knew first aide, but hoped she wouldn’t have to use it. This was already a complicated enough situation without him falling over on her.
